Admitted to the Kentucky Bar in 1977, he later gained admission in 1982 to the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth and Seventh Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Russ earned his B.A. in 1973 from Kentucky Wesleyan College. He then pursued his legal education at Salmon P. Chase College of Law, completing his J.D. in 1977.
