Richard C. Maxson

Richard C. Maxson is an owner and President of the Peet Law Group in Williston and practices within a firm focused exclusively on Vermont real estate law. His background includes real estate, landlord-tenant matters, criminal defense, insurance defense, and personal injury litigation. That broader experience supports current property work by giving him familiarity with disputes, contracts, occupancy issues, liability concerns, and other legal questions that can arise around ownership and real estate transactions.

Richard earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Arizona State University in 1987 and received his J.D. from California Western School of Law in 1993. During his second and third years of law school, he clerked for the litigation firm Larrabee & Loadman in San Diego. His academic and early litigation training provided a foundation in legal analysis, advocacy, and case preparation that later carried into Vermont property and transaction work.

After admission to the bar, Richard worked with McMenamin & Bennett, in-house counsel for Cigna Insurance, where he handled primarily personal injury cases. He was admitted in Vermont in 1997 and opened an office in South Burlington, with a practice centered on criminal defense, real estate, and landlord-tenant matters. He joined the Law Offices of Fred V. Peet, P.C. in 1998 and has remained with the firm as it developed into Peet Law Group.
