Rex H. Elliott

Rex H. Elliott is the co-founder and owner of Cooper Elliott in Columbus, Ohio, where he represents individuals and businesses in complex civil litigation. With more than 30 years of trial experience, his practice includes civil rights, wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury, medical malpractice, business fraud and disputes, and employment litigation. Elliott focuses on cases involving powerful institutions, government actors, corporations, and other defendants in significant state and federal matters.

Elliott earned a B.A. from Denison University in 1984 and a J.D., summa cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law in 1988. In law school, he served as a member and editor of the Syracuse Law Review, published in the journal, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. His academic background provided a strong foundation for legal analysis, appellate advocacy, and complex trial work.

Before co-founding Cooper Elliott in 1995, Elliott practiced at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and Porter Wright Morris & Arthur. Early in his career, he handled an $800 million partnership dispute and represented the NFL in antitrust litigation. His later work has included high-profile matters involving civil rights, serious injuries, public officials, business disputes, and wrongful death. He has also argued successfully before the Ohio Supreme Court and state and federal appellate courts.

Rex H. Elliott has been directly involved in more than half a billion dollars in verdicts and settlements since the firm’s founding. His accomplishments include a $27 million jury verdict and numerous other multimillion-dollar results. Elliott has been selected to Super Lawyers each year since 2005 and recognized among the Top 50 Columbus Super Lawyers. He has also served on the boards of the Ohio Association for Justice and Central Ohio Association for Justice.
