Phil Fikes

Phil Fikes is a Birmingham associate attorney whose professional background includes criminal defense, public defense work, and experience in Alabama government legal offices. He practices with a team handling criminal cases and other disputes affecting individuals and families. His previous work gives him a view of how allegations are reviewed and prepared for court. Phil graduated from Jones School of Law in Montgomery, Alabama. During law school, he served on the Faulkner Law Board of Advocates, worked as an editor for the Faulkner Law Review, and was chief prosecutor for the Faulkner Law Honor Court. He also clerked for the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, legal counsel to Governor Kay Ivey, and Judge Chris McCool of the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals. These roles expanded his legal research and advocacy training.

Phil worked at the Jefferson County Public Defender’s Office and Gregory M. Varner & Associates before joining his current practice. The public defender experience placed him in the legal system representing people who face criminal accusations. His work in government offices and an appellate court provided exposure to legal analysis, the preparation of arguments, and the review of court issues. Together, those roles inform his approach to defense-oriented legal work.

Phil Fikes is an active member of the Alabama State Bar, Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and Birmingham Bar Association. He also coaches the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Mock Trial Team. His involvement in trial advocacy and professional organizations complements his courtroom background.
