About
Peter D. Klein is an attorney at Drummond Woodsum in Portland who advises buyers, sellers, lenders, and borrowers on real estate development. His practice includes real estate finance, permitting, land use, project development and construction, commercial leasing, and related business issues. A significant part of his work involves developers, lenders, and investors using historic tax credits and low-income housing tax credits to finance commercial and residential development projects.
Pete earned a J.D., cum laude, from New England School of Law in 2001 and a B.A. from Wheaton College in Illinois in 1998. His legal education supports work involving real estate finance, permitting, land use, project development and construction, commercial leasing, and negotiated transaction documents. That training complements more than two decades of legal experience advising parties on real estate development and financing matters.
Pete has represented developers in the redevelopment of the Lincoln Mill in Biddeford, the Picker House in Lewiston, and the Lockwood Mill in Waterville. These projects involved historic tax credits, low-income housing tax credits, or a combination of the two. He has also represented lenders and investors in redevelopment projects, including 45 Forest Avenue in Portland. His work for developers, lenders, and investors gives him experience with several sides of complex real estate development and financing transactions.
Peter D. Klein is ranked by Chambers & Partners in Maine Real Estate and is recognized by Best Lawyers USA for Commercial Finance Law and Real Estate Law. New England Super Lawyers previously named him a Rising Star in banking and business or corporate work, and Martindale-Hubbell has rated him BV Distinguished. He is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and American Bar Association and continues to advise clients on complex financing and development matters.
