Paula J. Schaefer

Paula J. Schaefer is a partner at Ruppert & Schaefer, P.C., specializing in family law. She has been practicing law in Indiana since 1994. Ms. Schaefer is a Certified Family Law Specialist recognized by the Family Law Certification Board. She also holds certifications in Family Law Mediation and Collaborative Law, enabling her to address family law issues through alternative dispute resolution methods.

Ms. Schaefer’s educational background is rooted in legal studies. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis in 1994. Prior to that, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Legal Administration from Ball State University in 1991 and an Associate of Science in Paralegal/Legal Assistant Studies from Vincennes University in 1989.

With decades of experience in family law, she is dedicated to helping clients navigate complex family law matters with clarity and confidence. She began her legal career as a paralegal and law clerk, gaining hands-on experience that deeply informed her understanding of court procedures, case strategy, and the overall legal process.

Before joining Ruppert & Schaefer, P.C., Ms. Schaefer worked with respected firms such as Beasley, Gilkison, Retherford, Buckles & Clark, and Price & Barker, where she handled various family law cases.

At Ruppert & Schaefer, P.C., Ms. Schaefer focuses on divorce, child custody, visitation, alimony, child support, and prenuptial agreements. She represents clients in court and utilizes mediation and collaborative law methods when appropriate. Her expertise also extends to estate planning, including the preparation of wills and powers of attorney.
