Patrick Watt

Patrick Watt is a Montana civil litigation attorney who has handled a broad range of disputes since 1989. His practice includes property and easement matters, subdivision disputes, water rights, insurance coverage and bad faith claims, and estate and probate litigation. He also represents clients in business and partnership disputes, contract claims, personal injury matters, and construction cases. In addition to litigating these issues, Patrick advises businesses and organizations on legal concerns and helps them address disputes before they reach the courtroom.

Patrick earned a BS degree from Montana State University with an emphasis in Business Marketing and Distributive Education. He later earned his Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of Montana. During law school, he served as an editor and business manager for the Montana Law Review. As an undergraduate, Patrick was a student senator and orientation leader and received Montana State University’s highest senior service award. His education and leadership experience form part of a career devoted to resolving varied legal problems.

Patrick Watt brings courtroom experience and a practical understanding of dispute prevention to his work with individuals, businesses, and organizations. He has also served as a mediator and arbitrator, giving him experience with ways to resolve disagreements outside litigation. Patrick has represented clients in jury trials, administrative hearings, and appeals. His experience extends to oil, gas, and mineral lease disputes, employment defense, education and housing law, environmental insurance matters, and complex cases involving multiple parties. He is admitted before the Montana Supreme Court, the federal district court in Montana, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also appeared before the Montana Water Court and state administrative agencies, including the Montana Human Rights Commission.
