Patrick O. Dunphy is a Wisconsin personal injury attorney and co-founder of Cannon & Dunphy S.C. Since 1985, the firm has represented people injured by others’ negligence. His practice focuses on general negligence, product liability, and professional malpractice, backed by more than 40 years of trial experience.
Patrick earned his B.A., magna cum laude, from Boston College in 1973. He earned his J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 1976. He was a member of Marquette Law Review from 1975 to 1976 and served as Law Clerk to Chief Judge John Reynolds.
Patrick has secured record-setting verdicts and awards ranging from $9.8 million to $35.3 million. His work has included cases involving serious injury, constitutional rights violations, health system failures, and illegal gun sales. Several matters led to major settlements, public attention, and changes affecting Wisconsin law.
Patrick has received many honors for his trial work. He was named a Wisconsin Super Lawyer each year from 2005 to 2024 and a Top 10 Super Lawyer from 2008 to 2024. He was also named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in 2024.
Patrick is the Past President of the Wisconsin Academy of Trial Lawyers, now the Wisconsin Association for Justice. He received the President’s Award in 2015. He is also an invited member of the Inner Circle of Advocates, International Society of Barristers, and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
