P. Nelson Smith Jr.

Nelson Smith Jr. is an attorney licensed in both Mississippi and Louisiana, with decades of legal experience. He represents clients in family law and personal injury matters while also serving as an Assistant District Attorney in the 2nd JDC of Louisiana.

Nelson earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics from Ole Miss in 1986, with minors in Chemistry, Biology, English, and German. He later received his law degree from Ole Miss in 1990. His strong academic background supports his thoughtful and analytical approach to legal matters.

Nelson began his legal career in Columbus, Mississippi, where he practiced as a shareholder with Gholson, Hicks & Nichols PA. He later became a partner at Hicks & Smith PLLC. During this time, he practiced in both the Northern and Southern federal court districts in Mississippi.

Nelson is also admitted to practice before the federal U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals and the Western District of Louisiana. After beginning his Louisiana practice in Minden, he now practices with the Ryan Gatti law firm in Bossier City, Louisiana.

Nelson’s primary areas of practice include family law and personal injury. In addition to representing private clients, Nelson serves the public as an Assistant District Attorney. He focuses on helping everyday people navigate difficult legal situations with practical advice and steady guidance.
