Ousama M. Rasheed

Ousama M. Rasheed is a member of Rasheed & Associates, P.C. in Albuquerque, New Mexico, whose practice focuses on DWI and criminal defense. Rasheed represents clients in matters involving license revocation, domestic violence, violent crimes, controlled substances, juvenile delinquency, misdemeanors, felonies, probation violations, and vehicular homicide. His broader practice also includes civil litigation and personal injury, and his criminal defense work extends from investigation and plea negotiations through trial.

Rasheed earned his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 1990 and a B.A. in Speech Communication from the University of New Mexico. His education provided a foundation for courtroom advocacy, legal analysis, and communication in criminal cases. He was admitted to the New Mexico Bar in 1990 and has since developed extensive experience addressing DWI laws, evidentiary issues, license consequences, and serious criminal charges.

Early in his career, Rasheed served as an Assistant District Attorney for the State of New Mexico, handling as many as 100 DWI, DUI, and domestic violence cases weekly before moving to the felony crimes division. There, he handled property, narcotics, violent, and other serious offenses. He has also testified before the New Mexico Legislature on DWI and criminal law issues and regularly presented continuing legal education programs on DWI defense and license revocation.

Ousama M. Rasheed is a past president of the New Mexico Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and previously led the Criminal Section of the New Mexico State Bar. He received the ACLU of New Mexico’s Cooperating Attorney of the Year honor in 2005 and the NMCDLA Driscoll Award in 2009.
