About
Nina Cano Richards is the founder and owner of Cano Law LLC in Charleston, South Carolina, where she has dedicated her career exclusively to immigration law. Since opening her firm in 2015, she has represented hundreds of families in immigration proceedings, with a focus on deportation defense, family-based petitions, and immigrant rights advocacy. Her work reflects her unwavering commitment to reuniting families and protecting immigrant communities.
Nina began her career in 2013 at the Texas-Mexico border, where she represented unaccompanied minor children in Harlingen, Texas. There, she gained firsthand experience managing a high volume of deportation defense cases at the frontlines of immigration law. This early exposure to the challenges faced by vulnerable populations solidified her dedication to pursuing immigration law as her life’s work.
Beyond her legal practice, Nina is actively involved in community leadership. She serves on the boards of Charleston VOTA and the ACLU of South Carolina and acts as an advisor for the City of Charleston’s Mayor’s Latinx Advisory Council. Through these roles, she advocates for language access, legal aid, immigrant victim support, and anti-human trafficking initiatives, amplifying her impact outside the courtroom.
In addition to her advocacy and litigation, Nina is passionate about teaching and mentoring. She teaches Immigration Law at the College of Charleston and mentors aspiring attorneys, sharing her knowledge and instilling in students a passion for immigrant rights.
With her compassionate approach and strong voice for justice, Nina Cano Richards has become a trusted advocate for immigrant families and a respected leader in both the legal and local Charleston communities.
