About
Mitchell Breit is a New York attorney with more than 40 years of legal experience. His practice focuses on consumer protection, class actions, mass torts, defective products, and environmental litigation. He represents people harmed by corporate wrongdoing in cases with national reach. After beginning his career in defense work, he shifted to representing plaintiffs, pursuing claims that address financial losses, unsafe products, and environmental harm affecting large groups of people.
Mitchell earned a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1972 and a Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in 1979. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York, as well as multiple federal courts and the United States Supreme Court. His professional background also includes teaching as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School and a guest lecturer at Fordham University School of Law.
Mitchell’s experience includes the BP Gulf Oil Spill and Toyota Unintended Acceleration litigation. He helped settle a Bank of America class action involving debit card overdraft fees and served in leadership roles in environmental settlements concerning contaminated properties near facilities in Tampa and Pensacola. His pharmaceutical and medical product work includes service on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in the ReNu MoistureLoc litigation and as liaison counsel in New York’s consolidated Bextra-Celebrex litigation. He has also handled acetaminophen labeling claims against major retailers.
Mitchell Breit has received recognition from New York Metro Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America, including recognition in the 2026 edition. He was named the 2024 Long Island Lawyer of the Year for Mass Tort Litigation/Class Actions, Plaintiffs. He serves on the board of Public Justice and belongs to the American Association for Justice. Through national conference presentations on class actions, toxic torts, and groundwater contamination, he shares experience gained from decades of representing plaintiffs in complex litigation.
