Michele S. Katz

Michele S. Katz is the founding partner of Advitam IP, LLC, where she brings over two decades of experience in all areas of intellectual property law. She provides comprehensive legal counsel, including litigation, licensing, prosecution, and strategic portfolio management. Michele has represented clients before federal courts, the TTAB, U.S. Customs, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. A certified mediator, she is also adept at guiding parties toward creative and amicable resolutions.

Michele holds a J.D. from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she completed the International and Comparative Law Certificate Program, and a B.A. in Psychology and Jewish Studies from Indiana University, graduating with honors. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and Minnesota and admitted to several federal courts, including the Northern District of Illinois and the Federal Circuit.

Beyond the courtroom, Michele is a passionate advocate for education, mentorship, and women in business. She has delivered presentations around the world—including at the Asian Patent Attorneys Association in Japan—and actively supports entrepreneurs and students through local startup incubators and youth business education programs. As a past president of NAWBO Chicago, she launched a local chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), where she mentors young girls in starting, growing, and leading their own businesses.

Michele’s accolades are many: she’s been named a Super Lawyer annually since 2021, listed in the IAM Strategy 300, and recognized as Trademark Litigation Expert of the Year in Illinois by CorporateINTL. She’s also the only U.S. attorney regularly featured in Women’s IP World Magazine and its podcast.
