Michael G. Winters is a founding partner at Ellis & Winters LLP in Raleigh, North Carolina. He has more than four decades of experience in commercial transactional work, with a practice focused on complex commercial and residential real estate development. Winters advises clients on land acquisition, leasing, development financing, and land use planning. His work includes office parks, mixed-use developments, apartment projects, shopping centers, and other commercial development matters.
Winters earned his J.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1978. He received his B.S. from the University of North Carolina in 1975, where he was a Morehead Scholar and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma. His education provided a strong foundation in legal analysis, business judgment, and practical problem solving, supporting his work on sophisticated real estate transactions and financing issues.
Winters has represented clients in a wide range of development and real estate finance matters. His experience includes assisting a multi-family developer with site acquisitions, leasing, development loans, joint venture agreements, construction contracts, and developer agreements. He has also assisted a large landowner with site sales tied to economic development, represented a university in the sale of a mixed-use center, and advised an office developer on acquisitions and leasing for office projects.
