About

Meredith G. Schmid is an attorney at Schmid Law Offices who represents clients in York County, Maine, in criminal and family matters. Her criminal defense work includes OUI and DWI charges, drug-related offenses, and other felony and misdemeanor cases. She is also a trained mediator and represents clients in family disputes. Her practice draws on experience in criminal defense, guardianship, protective-custody matters, federal national-security work, and intelligence analysis, giving her a broad litigation and investigation background.

Meredith is a graduate of George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia, and Penn State University. Her legal education prepared her for statutory analysis, evidence review, legal writing, and advocacy across complex matters. Before practicing in Maine, she developed additional experience in national-security law and counterterrorism. That combination of academic and professional training supports her current work evaluating criminal allegations, government evidence, procedural issues, and contested family matters that require careful preparation and direct client guidance.

Schmid previously served as an attorney with the US Department of Justice’s National Security Division. In that role, she worked with law-enforcement and intelligence agencies on warrants in domestic-terrorism investigations, trained FBI agents on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and conducted oversight reviews involving federal agencies. Before DOJ, she worked as an intelligence analyst. After moving to Maine, she practiced felony and misdemeanor criminal defense as well as guardianship and protective-custody cases before establishing her current practice.

Meredith G. Schmid combines criminal-defense experience with a prior federal national-security and intelligence background. Her work requires close review of evidence, government procedures, legal standards, and the individual circumstances surrounding each matter. She represents clients facing OUI and DWI allegations, drug charges, felonies, misdemeanors, and family disputes while also offering mediation services. Her varied background supports a practice focused on careful case assessment, informed advocacy, and practical guidance through demanding legal proceedings.
