Mengqi Zheng

Mengqi Zheng is a seasoned intellectual property attorney with a strong background in patent prosecution, portfolio management, and strategic IP counseling. Since 2018, she has served as in-house counsel for Jupeng Bio, Inc., where she manages the company’s global patent portfolio, drafts and prosecutes U.S. and international applications, and works closely with technical teams to capture and protect innovative developments. Her role also includes conducting freedom-to-operate, patentability, and validity analyses to guide critical business decisions.

Mengqi earned her Juris Doctor from SMU Dedman School of Law in 2018 after completing a Master of Laws from Southern Methodist University in 2014. In addition, Mengqi holds a Master of Science in Finance from the University of Texas at Dallas and a Bachelor of Automation Science from Beihang University. This unique blend of legal, technical, and financial expertise enables her to provide clients with comprehensive and commercially focused intellectual property strategies.

At Jupeng Bio, Mengqi advises management on IP strategies designed to strengthen competitive positioning and mitigate risks. She drafts and negotiates a variety of agreements, including IP licensing, confidentiality, joint research, and vendor contracts, while efficiently managing IP budgets. Her work ensures that innovation is not only protected but also aligned with business objectives.

Mengqi’s prior legal experience includes clerkships with JAS Law, LLP, and Shore Chan DePumpo LLP. In these roles, she gained hands-on experience in patent litigation, reverse engineering, infringement analysis, and due diligence across industries such as biotechnology, chemicals, optics, telecommunications, and medical devices. She also supported PTAB Inter Partes Review proceedings and assisted in damages assessments for complex disputes.
