Maurice “Mac” VerStandig

Maurice “Mac” VerStandig is the managing partner of The Belmont Firm in Washington, D.C., where he focuses his legal practice on bankruptcy law and litigation. Known for his creative and aggressive approach, Mac represents both individuals and companies facing financial challenges and guides them through bankruptcy to achieve a new financial beginning.

Mac earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 2009 and holds a B.A., with honors in the major, from the University of Wisconsin, earned in 2006.

Mac’s practice is centered in federal bankruptcy courts, where he has recovered tens of millions of dollars for clients. His work includes forming plans of reorganization, contesting stay relief motions, litigating conversion proceedings, and pursuing adversary claims. He serves as outside bankruptcy counsel to major private lenders in the Washington, D.C. area and also represents creditors in Florida and Nevada.

In addition to advising secured lenders, Mac has handled complex matters such as the reorganization of law firms, the liquidation of manufacturing companies, and the representation of trustees in contested proceedings. He also offers pro bono services to individuals and charities, reflecting his commitment to community service.

Maurice “Mac” VerStandig has held an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell since the age of 29 and has been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers. In 2024, he was named to the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 40 Under 40 list. He serves on the rules committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Columbia and regularly appears in courts nationwide.

Active in both legal and nonprofit communities, Mac serves on multiple boards, including the Charity Series of Poker and the University of Wisconsin Department of Communication Arts. He remains deeply connected to the Washington, D.C. region.
