About
Matthew Spencer Gold is a Colorado criminal defense attorney known for direct involvement and steady advocacy for people facing serious charges. He prioritizes listening, guidance, and strong courtroom defense, personally handling each matter to protect clients’ rights, options, and outcomes during stressful and uncertain moments.
Matthew earned his B.S. in Anthropology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 2010. He later completed his legal education at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, graduating in 2013 with a Juris Doctor, which prepared him for complex criminal litigation and courtroom decision-making.
Matthew has handled thousands of criminal cases and brings more than a decade of courtroom experience to every defense. His practice centers on DUI and criminal matters, with representation spanning all major counties throughout the Denver Metro Area and involving a wide range of procedural and evidentiary challenges.
Matthew previously served as a Deputy District Attorney in Colorado’s First Judicial District, covering Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. As a prosecutor, he managed thousands of cases, focusing on DUI and domestic violence matters, and later handled felony prosecutions involving assaults, drug offenses, sex offenses, homicide, and other serious crimes.
Matthew also worked within the Juvenile Unit, developing insight into cases involving young people and sensitive allegations, including sex crimes against children. He later served as the assigned felony line prosecutor for Gilpin County, gaining experience with gaming and gambling-related criminal offenses under Colorado law standards and procedures.
Matthew gained additional perspective by interning with a District Court Judge in Jefferson County. This role provided direct exposure to judicial reasoning, courtroom procedure, and case evaluation, shaping a balanced approach to defense strategy that considers how arguments are reviewed and decided from the bench.
Matthew Spencer Gold is licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado and maintains an active membership with the Colorado Bar Association and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. He also presents for LYRIC, educating youth in underserved and minority communities about constitutional rights during law enforcement encounters.
