About
Matthew Sakkas is a partner at Sakkas, Cahn & Weiss, LLP in New York City. He represents people injured in car accidents, construction accidents, premises liability incidents, and other cases involving negligence or wrongful conduct. His practice also includes wrongful death claims and civil appeals. Drawing on decades of experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants, Sakkas develops informed strategies for clients facing serious injuries, financial losses, and complex insurance issues.
Sakkas earned his J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1991. He received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Clark University in 1988 and studied at the London School of Economics from 1986 to 1987. His academic training provided a strong foundation in legal analysis, persuasive writing, and advocacy. These skills support his work in personal injury trials, settlement negotiations, and appeals involving complicated factual and legal questions.
Sakkas began his legal career at an insurance defense firm, where he handled premises liability and construction accident cases. He later moved to a plaintiffs’ firm and managed personal injury matters from intake through trial while preparing and arguing appeals. In 2000, he opened a practice focused on representing injured plaintiffs. His appellate experience includes decisions involving workplace violence, construction injuries, and punitive damages arising from a drunk driving accident.
Matthew Sakkas is admitted in New York, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He belongs to the American Association for Justice, New York State Trial Lawyers Association, New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, and New York County Lawyers’ Association. He has also served as a New York City Civil Court arbitrator and volunteered through Trial Lawyers Care to represent a family affected by the September 11 attacks.
