About
Matthew J. Gilbert is an attorney and co-founder of Gilbert Alden Barbosa PLLC, serving individuals and small businesses in Minnesota. Matthew focuses on family law and business law, including divorce, business disputes, and courtroom matters. He combines legal judgment with a background in economics and finance to help clients understand risks, protect their rights, and achieve practical results in complex legal situations.
Matthew earned his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law, where he served as an Assistant Editor of the Law Review and worked as a Legal Content Intern at Thomson Reuters. Before law school, he earned a B.S. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked as a financial adviser intern at Edward Jones.
Before establishing Gilbert Alden Barbosa PLLC with attorney Charlie Alden, Matthew owned and operated Gilbert Law PLLC. That practice focused on marital dissolution actions for high-net-worth clients, including spousal maintenance claims, marital asset division, prenuptial agreements, business valuation, post-decree modification claims, and creditors’ rights. He has also helped small businesses throughout the Twin Cities resolve legal matters and has represented them in court.
Matthew J. Gilbert has been recognized by Minnesota Super Lawyers as a Rising Star and has received honors from the National Trial Lawyers, CorporateLiveWire, the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys, and Minnesota Monthly. Matt is known for thorough preparation, careful investigation, and practical advice. His work helps families, individuals, and business owners evaluate options, prepare for litigation, and move through legal challenges with informed guidance.
