Matthew Gillhouse is an immigration attorney dedicated to representing immigrant families in complex legal matters. Since 2011, he has focused his career on helping individuals navigate challenging immigration cases, including those involving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. He is widely known in the Latino community as “Mateo” and is fully fluent in Spanish. His practice centers on strong advocacy, education, and expanding access to justice for vulnerable families.
Matthew earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2007. After graduation, he served as a judicial law clerk for the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. This early experience strengthened his legal research, writing, and courtroom analysis skills. His education and clerkship laid the foundation for a career devoted to immigration law and public service.
Throughout his career, Matthew has provided representation in complex immigration matters and worked closely with community organizations. He collaborates with groups such as the YWCA of Rock County, Dane County Sanctuary Coalition, Wisconsin Immigrant Support Network Coalition, VOCES de la Frontera, and others. He regularly delivers Know Your Rights presentations and bilingual trainings to empower immigrant families and community advocates.
Matthew Gillhouse and his team organize free legal clinics across Wisconsin, including Citizenship Day events and community consultations in multiple cities. He has been recognized as one of Wisconsin’s Leaders in Law and received the MLK Jr. Racial Justice Award for his advocacy and leadership. His work reflects a continued commitment to education, collaboration, and meaningful legal support for immigrant communities statewide.
