Matthew D. Alegi is a real estate and finance attorney known for delivering practical solutions to complex legal and business challenges. Matt earned a B.A. from Lakeland College before obtaining a J.D. from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law. While attending law school, he was a Merit Scholar and served as Associate Editor of The Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy. His academic background helped build a strong foundation for his work in real estate, finance, and regulatory matters, while also preparing him to handle detailed legal and transactional issues with precision.
Matt concentrates on the acquisition, sale, and financing of real estate, representing buyers, sellers, and lenders in a wide range of transactions. He also advises clients on problem loans, loan workouts, collateralization matters, and loss mitigation strategies. In addition, he assists title insurers and insured parties with title disputes and title insurance claims. His practice extends to advising mortgage brokers, title insurance agents, banks, real estate brokers, builders, and developers on operational, compliance, and dispute-related matters.
Matt has significant experience supporting renewable energy projects, particularly commercial solar developments. He guides clients through pre-acquisition planning, site control matters, title underwriting, and project closings. His work has contributed to some of the largest solar projects in the eastern United States. Beyond client representation, he has served in leadership positions within Maryland’s legal community, regularly teaches continuing legal education programs, and has been recognized as a Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation for his contributions to the legal profession and the advancement of justice.
