Matt Powell

Matt Powell is a personal injury lawyer with MattLaw Car Accident and Personal Injury Lawyers in Tampa, Florida. He is triple board certified, including certification as a Civil Trial Lawyer by The Florida Bar. He represents clients in catastrophic injury, wrongful death, nursing home abuse, car accident, truck accident, motorcycle accident, and traumatic brain injury cases. Earlier in his career, he defended negligent drivers, doctors, and insurance companies.

Matt earned his J.D. with honors from Florida State University College of Law. He received his B.S. from the University of Central Florida and an A.A. from the University of Florida. His education preceded a litigation career that has included extensive courtroom experience in serious injury and negligence matters.

Matt began his career with an insurance defense firm in Tallahassee, where he learned how insurers evaluate and defend injury claims. He later left insurance defense and opened his own practice to represent injured individuals and families. His work covers medical malpractice, nursing home abuse, bicycle accidents, slip-and-fall cases, rideshare accidents, broken bones, amputations, and other serious injury claims.

Matt Powell has practiced at the Hutchinson Mansion in Tampa since 1989. He completed his 100th jury trial in 2026 and holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He is admitted in Florida and Georgia, as well as before federal courts and the US Supreme Court. His professional memberships include the Florida Justice Association, American Association for Justice, and Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
