Marissa R. Hanson

Marissa R. Hanson is a passionate family law attorney who brings both personal insight and professional expertise to every case she handles. With a focus on divorce, child custody, support, and adoption, she represents clients across Kane and DeKalb Counties with care, integrity, and a solutions-driven approach.

Marissa earned her Juris Doctor from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2009, following her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Arizona in 2004. She is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois, and she is fluent in Spanish.

As a court-approved Guardian ad Litem and family law mediator, Marissa helps resolve complex issues outside of traditional litigation. She also serves as a foreclosure mediator for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, making her one of the few Kane County attorneys with this specialized role.

Marissa actively engages in community and legal service. She volunteers with the Kane County Bar Association through initiatives like “Ask a Lawyer Day” and “KCBA Cares,” and provides counsel to survivors of domestic violence through the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

A former associate at Aguiñaga Serrano, Marissa became a named partner at Serrano Hanson & Hurtado, LLC in 2014. Her dedication to family law stems from childhood experiences that shaped her understanding of the emotional challenges families face during conflict.
