Lisa A. Miller

Lisa A. Miller has built her career on improving safety in obstetric care and supporting families affected by preventable birth injuries. She combines clinical insight with legal training to evaluate complex medical decisions and help people understand what may have contributed to maternal or neonatal harm during labor or delivery.

Lisa began her professional path in nursing before advancing into midwifery, gaining hands-on experience caring for mothers and newborns in multiple clinical environments. Her work later expanded into teaching roles, including serving as Clinical Instructor for the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Champaign–Urbana. She then continued her academic service as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Northwestern University Medical School, where she directed an academic midwifery program and trained future clinicians.

Lisa became known nationally for her depth in electronic fetal monitoring, interdisciplinary communication, and obstetric safety practices. Over the years, she presented education to medical teams across the country and authored widely used resources, including Mosby’s Pocket Guide to Fetal Monitoring: A Multidisciplinary Approach. Her teachings focused on practical tools that improve labor management and support safer outcomes for women and newborns.

Lisa later expanded her work into the legal field, earning a Juris Doctor so she could apply her clinical understanding to birth injury and medical negligence matters. In legal practice, she reviews medical records, analyzes fetal monitoring data, and identifies departures from accepted obstetric standards. She also contributes to preparing expert testimony and strengthening case strategies that explain how communication, decision-making, or system failures may have influenced an injury.

Lisa A. Miller continues to use her combined medical and legal experience to advocate for families who need clarity after a life-changing event. Her work reflects a lifelong commitment to safer maternity care, clearer accountability, and helping clients move forward with informed guidance and compassion.
