LaTonya Burton is a seasoned trial attorney with over a decade of focused experience in criminal defense and civil rights litigation. Recognized for her bold courtroom presence and unwavering commitment to justice, she has built a reputation as a powerful advocate who stands firmly beside individuals facing life-altering accusations and legal challenges.

Ms. Burton earned her Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School after completing her Bachelor of Arts at DePaul University. This strong academic foundation supports her legal work and her role as an adjunct professor at the University of Phoenix, where she contributes to developing future professionals and strengthening legal education within her community.

Throughout her career, Ms. Burton has devoted approximately 95 percent of her practice to litigation. Her clients consistently benefit from her strategic preparation, persuasive advocacy, and compassionate understanding of the burdens they face. She approaches every case with the perspective that each client’s freedom and future depend on meticulous, resolute representation.

Licensed to practice in Illinois since 2004 and admitted to the Federal Trial Bar in 2014, Ms. Burton maintains a broad litigation presence in state and federal courts. Her work encompasses criminal defense matters of varying complexity as well as civil rights cases aimed at protecting individuals from governmental overreach and constitutional violations.

Ms. Burton’s accomplishments include recognition as a finalist in the 2001 ABA Counseling and Negotiation Competition and being named one of Lake County’s Most Influential African Americans in 2008. These honors reflect her skill, professionalism, and long-standing dedication to advocacy both inside and outside the courtroom.

LaTonya Burton’s commitment to service is further demonstrated through extensive professional affiliations. She has held leadership and membership roles within the Lake County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers’ Association of Greater Chicago, N.A.A.C.P. Lake County Branch, and N.I.C.A.S.A., where she served as an executive board member and Teen Court Judge.
