About
Kristin R. Waters is the founding attorney of an estate planning and probate practice in Birmingham, Alabama. She represents families, individuals, and fiduciaries on wills, trusts, estate administration, and probate litigation. Her work also includes guardianships, conservatorships, special needs planning, business succession, and estate-related tax questions. She guides clients through both advance planning and legal disagreements that can develop when a will, trust, or estate must be administered.
Kristin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alabama in 2002, graduating from its Honors College. She received a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2006 and an LL.M. in Taxation with a concentration in Estate Planning there in 2013. She was a National Merit Scholar. Her education connects legal drafting with the tax and financial questions involved in preserving family assets.
Kristin was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 2006 and later admitted to the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. Her practice covers will contests, trust litigation, fiduciary disputes, probate administration claims, powers of attorney, and estate planning for families. She also advises on revocable and irrevocable trusts and the transfer of assets. These matters draw on both planning knowledge and experience with contested estate proceedings.
Kristin R. Waters has been named to Mid-South Super Lawyers for estate planning and probate in 2023 through 2026. She speaks to professional groups about estate administration, legal ethics, and planning concerns. Her service includes Birmingham Bar Association committees and community board roles. Her practice combines long-term planning with representation when disagreements arise, helping clients address estate responsibilities, tax considerations, and the documents that determine how a legacy will be handled.
