About
Keith Tokerud is an attorney and shareholder with Montana Estate Lawyers, P.C. in Great Falls. His practice focuses on helping clients protect their families and wealth through estate planning while helping business owners prepare for succession and the transition out of their businesses. He also works within a firm centered on estate administration, elder law, and business succession planning. His practice combines long-term planning with experience in corporate, securities, and trial work.
Keith earned a bachelor’s degree in Russian Studies, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his law degree from the University of Michigan. After law school, he practiced corporate and securities law in Houston, Texas, before returning to Montana. His education and early corporate work provide a foundation for advising clients whose estate and succession plans involve business ownership, investments, family wealth, and significant long-term financial decisions.
Keith returned to Great Falls and worked as a trial lawyer with Jardine, Stephenson, Blewett & Weaver before joining Bill Scott to form Scott & Tokerud in 1986. He is a member of WealthCounsel, the State Bar of Montana’s Trust and Estates section, and the Cascade County Estate Planning Council. His career has therefore included corporate transactions, litigation, estate planning, and business succession work, allowing him to approach planning questions from several legal perspectives.
Keith Tokerud received the State Bar of Montana’s Neil Haight Pro Bono Award in 2009 for fourteen years of work seeking political asylum for a Soviet dissident. He has also held board leadership roles with the Great Falls Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations. His estate planning practice emphasizes thoughtful preparation for family wealth and business transitions, supported by decades of legal experience and sustained involvement in professional and public service.
