Kathryn M. Springstead

Kathryn M. Springstead is a highly experienced criminal defense and appellate attorney serving clients throughout West Michigan. As Chief Appellate Counsel at SBBL Law, she focuses on appeals, post-conviction motions, and federal habeas corpus petitions. Her background as a former FBI Special Agent gives her a unique advantage in legal investigations and case strategy. She is known for her sharp investigative skills, thorough legal research, and persuasive writing. Ms. Springstead has successfully handled cases before the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.

Ms. Springstead earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where she built a strong foundation in legal analysis and advocacy. She also holds an M.A. in International Relations from Boston University (Brussels, Belgium) and a B.A. from Clemson University.

Ms. Springstead began her career as a Special Agent for the FBI, where she conducted federal investigations, executed search warrants, and coordinated with federal prosecutors. This experience strengthened her ability to analyze evidence, uncover key details, and build strong legal arguments.

Since transitioning to criminal defense, Ms. Springstead has built a reputation as a leading appellate attorney.
