Karen M. Sosa

Karen M. Sosa is a dedicated criminal defense attorney with years of experience on both sides of the courtroom. As a former prosecutor and public defender, she brings a deep understanding of the justice system. Karen has successfully tried cases in both state and federal courts across the country. Her background includes handling a wide range of criminal matters, from traffic offenses to serious felonies, including murder. Whether at trial or in pre- or post-trial litigation, she works tirelessly to protect her clients’ rights and secure the best possible results.

Karen earned her LL.M. from the London School of Economics in 2010, with a focus on Criminology & Criminal Justice. She holds a J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law (2009) and graduated from Columbia University in 2006.

Before joining Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP, Karen built extensive trial experience as a prosecutor in four different courthouses across Los Angeles County. She previously practiced law in Virginia, first as a public defender in one of the state’s most challenging jurisdictions and then as a prosecutor in its largest office. This rare combination of defense and prosecution work honed her courtroom advocacy and gives her a uniquely well-rounded perspective on the criminal justice system.

While attending UCLA School of Law, Karen clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., and for the Major Crimes Unit in the LA District Attorney’s Office. She also worked as a criminal justice policy advisor in London, adding a global perspective to her legal experience.

Karen M. Sosa is admitted to practice in California and Virginia, as well as the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She has received multiple honors, including recognition by the National Trial Lawyers as a Top 40 Under 40 and a Top 100 Trial Lawyer in 2023. Karen is also active in the legal community, frequently volunteering as a judge for mock trials and moot court competitions. Her career reflects a strong commitment to justice, advocacy, and client-focused defense.
