About
Julia Kefalinos is a Miami bankruptcy and criminal defense attorney who established her practice in 2006. She handles consumer and business bankruptcy, debt relief, and criminal matters, including felony allegations, traffic offenses, juvenile cases, drug charges, and domestic violence cases. Her work also addresses foreclosure defense and related debt problems. She entered private practice after many years representing people who could not afford their own criminal defense attorneys.
Julia earned a B.S. from New York University in 1986 and a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law in 1990. As a law student, she focused on constitutional law and interned with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and the Copyright Royalty Tribunal. She also represented veterans seeking benefits and government employees challenging workplace decisions. These experiences helped prepare her for criminal defense and later bankruptcy representation.
Julia served with the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office from 1991 to 2006, representing thousands of people accused of crimes. Her caseload included felony, traffic, juvenile, and domestic violence matters, and she prepared cases through investigation, depositions, and trials. She also trained new attorneys and spent five years as a lead attorney in a specialized division, building courtroom and supervisory experience.
Julia Kefalinos expanded her practice into bankruptcy in 2006 to represent people facing creditor pressure and serious financial problems. Her current work includes Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy matters as well as defense in state and federal criminal cases. Her background in indigent defense shapes a practice concerned with protecting legal rights, addressing debts, and helping clients navigate demanding court procedures.
