About

Joshua Grubaugh is a Connecticut military and criminal defense attorney who represents service members, disabled veterans, and people facing criminal charges. His practice includes veterans’ disability claims, VA disability appeals, courts-martial, court-martial appeals, and other military justice matters. Drawing on his experience as an Army Judge Advocate, he helps clients navigate military courts, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the criminal justice system while ensuring their circumstances and goals are clearly understood.

Josh earned a B.A. in history, cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2003. He earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2008 and became a member of the California bar. His legal education and military training built a strong foundation in research, case analysis, trial advocacy, and appellate work. This background supports his ability to examine detailed records, identify important legal issues, and develop practical strategies for clients facing complex government processes.

Josh served on active duty in several Army legal roles. In Germany, he worked as Chief of Legal Assistance, Claims Attorney, Tax Law Officer-in-Charge, trial counsel, and senior trial counsel. At Fort Drum, he defended service members in courts-martial, Article 32 hearings, separation boards, pretrial confinement hearings, and Article 15 proceedings. He later served at Fort Belvoir as appellate defense counsel for convicted soldiers. Before entering private practice, he also handled insurance defense, workers’ compensation, and criminal defense matters.

Joshua Grubaugh continues to serve as a major in the U.S. Army Reserve and as a Master Resiliency Trainer. As a disabled veteran, he brings firsthand understanding to veterans’ disability matters and the challenges of dealing with federal systems. He is known for listening carefully, investigating each case thoroughly, and researching the law in depth. His combined trial, appellate, military, and private-practice experience helps him protect clients’ rights and present their stories with clarity and purpose.
