About

Joseph Vetsch is an of counsel attorney who focuses mainly on criminal defense for North Dakota clients. He advises people facing charges that can affect reputation, finances, family stability, and business or farm assets. His practice also includes real estate transactions and estate planning. He brings experience from defense, prosecution, court appointment work, and tribal court service to matters requiring practical judgment and clear legal guidance in difficult local cases.

Vetsch earned a J.D. with distinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the University of North Dakota. His education supports careful issue analysis, factual review, and courtroom preparation. That foundation helps him evaluate criminal allegations, property matters, estate planning needs, and tribal court issues while explaining legal options in direct terms for clients and court hearings.

Vetsch began his legal career with Legal Services of North Dakota, assisting victims of violence and sexual assault with civil issues in state and tribal courts. He served as prosecuting attorney for the Spirit Lake Tribe from 2004 until 2016. Since 2003, he has handled court-appointed criminal and mental health cases for counties, the State of North Dakota, and the City of Devils Lake, and related proceedings involving legal rights.

Joseph Vetsch has served as Special and Conflict Judge for the Turtle Mountain Tribal Court and as Chief Judge for the Spirit Lake Tribal Court. He has also managed a private practice in Devils Lake since 2003. His work across defense, prosecution, judicial service, and public appointments helps clients view cases from multiple perspectives. He supports efficient resolutions through focused preparation and steady advocacy in difficult legal and personal circumstances.
