About
Joseph Martinez brings criminal defense experience to people facing DWI and related charges in the Greater Rochester Area. His work is shaped by time in public defense, where he handled concerns, court appearances, and case preparation across different levels of criminal matters. He understands the pressure clients face during prosecutions.
Joseph earned a Bachelor’s degree in English from SUNY Brockport. He then earned his Juris Doctor from Indiana University in Indianapolis, building the legal training that later supported his courtroom work. These studies helped him develop strong writing, research, and advocacy skills needed for careful criminal defense representation and client communication.
Joseph began his legal career after returning home, spending more than a year as an intern at the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. That role gave him exposure to criminal procedure and prosecution practices. He later chose a defense-focused path, using that background to better understand how cases are built.
Joseph continued his work at the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office, representing indigent clients in violation, misdemeanor, and felony matters. In the Town Court section of Local Courts, he handled legal research, client counseling, conferences, hearings, and trials. His duties required steady preparation and clear guidance for people facing charges.
Joseph later moved to the City Court section of Local Courts, where he gained further courtroom experience through assignments connected with the Honorable Melissa Barrett, the Honorable Teresa Johnson, and the Honorable LaToya Lee. He was then promoted to felony matters, expanding his ability to handle more serious criminal cases.
Joseph uses his background to help clients understand their Constitutional rights, available options, and the steps involved in court proceedings. His public defender experience taught him how to communicate with people under stress, prepare arguments, and protect client interests during hearings, negotiations, and trials involving criminal accusations and DWI concerns.
Joseph Martinez now focuses on DWI defense in the Greater Rochester Area, bringing practical courtroom knowledge to clients who need steady legal support. His path from prosecution exposure to public defense gives him a balanced view of criminal cases. He helps people move through the legal process with informed advocacy.
