Joseph L. Caltrider

Joseph L. Caltrider is an experienced litigation attorney who represents clients across West Virginia. He handles complex civil cases with a focus on clear strategy and strong advocacy. His approach is practical and steady, helping clients understand their legal options while working toward effective and efficient outcomes.

Joseph earned his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law in 1995, where he took part in trial advocacy programs and competitions. He also earned a B.A. from Swarthmore College in 1992, where he was a varsity football player and received academic honors and leadership recognition.

Joseph focuses his practice on civil litigation, including motor vehicle liability, premises liability, product liability, and workplace injury claims. His work also includes insurance defense, bad-faith and coverage disputes, estate and trust litigation, and land-use and development matters.

Joseph represents clients in cases involving wrongful death, professional negligence, and police liability. He also handles business disputes and property-related issues. His experience includes multiple jury trials and appeals in both state and federal courts.

Joseph is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. These admissions support his broad litigation practice.

Joseph has held leadership roles within his firm, including serving as head of the Torts and Insurance Practice Group. He also completed training at the National Trial Advocacy Institute. His work has earned recognition, including membership in the Order of Barristers.
