Joseph J. Kunkel is a dedicated criminal defense attorney focused on representing individuals charged with criminal and traffic offenses in the Columbus, Ohio area. Joseph earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ohio University in 2008, where he also competed as a member of the varsity men’s track and cross-country teams. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University in 2012, earning a Certificate of Achievement in Criminal Law and taking first place in the Burke E. Smith mock trial competition.
While in law school, Joseph completed multiple internships and externships, gaining firsthand experience in both municipal and federal public defender offices, as well as judicial externships in Van Wert and Franklin Counties. These opportunities allowed him to work directly with judges and indigent clients, enhancing his litigation skills and deepening his commitment to criminal defense.
Joseph began his legal career as a law clerk at Shaw & Miller in Columbus, Ohio, gaining early exposure to legal procedures and case preparation. Today, he represents clients in a wide range of cases, from DUI/OVI to serious felony charges, always working to protect their rights and minimize the impact of legal proceedings on their lives.
