About
Joseph Goedken is an Iowa trial attorney who has served clients since 2005, with primary work in family law and criminal defense. He represents people facing stressful disputes, charges, and court decisions that can affect their families, freedom, and future. His practice includes trial preparation, negotiation, and client counseling in Iowa courts. He helps Iowans understand legal options, protect their rights, and navigate difficult cases with focused advocacy when needed.
Joseph earned his J.D. from Drake University Law School. He earned his B.A. in Psychology, with honors, from Loras College, with a Business minor and cum laude distinction. His education supports trial strategy, client counseling, legal writing, and careful case review in contested legal court matters. It also helps him understand the human issues behind family conflict, criminal charges, addiction concerns, and mental health challenges affecting clients and their families.
Joseph has played an important role in Iowa’s Drug Court and Mental Health Court programs. As defense counsel for both programs in the 8th Judicial District, he helped divert clients with drug addiction and mental health issues from prison. His work reflects a practical understanding that some cases require treatment, structure, and support along with legal defense. That experience strengthens his service to clients facing complex problems in court proceedings.
Joseph Goedken has also served in bar leadership and community service roles across Iowa. He was President of the Iowa State Bar Association Young Lawyer Division and has served in several bar committees, boards, and planning roles. He is President of the Indian Hills Community College Foundation. Clients may seek his help with family law, criminal defense, diversion programs, and trial matters that require thorough preparation and dedicated legal advocacy.
