Joseph G. Talbot

Joseph G. Talbot is the President, a Director, and a Shareholder of Perkins Thompson and chairs the firm’s Litigation and Construction Law practice groups. His litigation practice focuses primarily on construction disputes, along with property disputes, commercial and contract disputes, and general civil litigation. Talbot represents clients in state and federal courts and before mediators and arbitrators throughout New England, providing practical guidance to resolve disputes efficiently while protecting clients’ business and project interests.

Talbot earned his J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Maine School of Law and received his B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Southern Maine. His academic background provides a strong foundation in legal analysis, research, advocacy, and problem solving. This training supports his ability to evaluate complicated construction and commercial disputes, interpret contractual obligations, and advise clients on legal issues that may arise before, during, and after construction projects.

Talbot advises clients on mechanics’ liens, insurance requirements, payment and performance bonds, delay claims, workmanship claims, and payment disputes. He also drafts and reviews contracts for commercial and residential construction projects of varying sizes and provides general counsel services to businesses without in-house legal departments. His work combines dispute resolution with preventive counseling, helping contractors, owners, and other clients address contractual risks, payment issues, and project concerns before they develop into larger disputes.

Joseph G. Talbot is admitted to practice in Maine and Massachusetts and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. His professional memberships include the Maine State Bar Association, Gignoux Inn of Court, and Cumberland Bar Association. As firm president, he also oversees day-to-day operations and assists with long-term strategic planning. Talbot combines construction-law knowledge, litigation experience, and practical business judgment to help clients manage disputes and keep projects and businesses moving forward.
