Joseph G. Curatolo

Joseph G. Curatolo is a co-founder of Curatolo Sidoti Trillis Co., LPA in Cleveland, Ohio, with more than 40 years of intellectual property experience. His practice includes intellectual property counseling, patent and trademark preparation and prosecution, licensing, legal opinions, and dispute resolution. Curatolo’s patent work focuses on chemical, biotechnology, and materials science technologies, allowing him to help clients protect and manage innovations in technically complex fields.

Curatolo earned his J.D. from Cleveland Marshall College of Law and a B.S. from John Carroll University. His legal and scientific background supports a practice that requires careful analysis of inventions, patentability issues, licensing arrangements, and intellectual property rights. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is also admitted before the Supreme Court of Ohio, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Before entering private practice, Curatolo served as Senior Patent and License Counsel for The Standard Oil Company and BP America in Cleveland. His corporate experience gave him direct exposure to intellectual property strategy, patent portfolios, licensing, and the business considerations surrounding technology assets. When BP America announced the relocation of its North American headquarters in 1998, he moved into private practice, where he continued advising clients on patents, trademarks, licensing, opinions, and intellectual property disputes.

Joseph G. Curatolo has also contributed to the intellectual property profession through work with USPTO Automation and Electronic Filing committees of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Section. He is a member of the American Chemical Society. Curatolo’s combination of in-house and private-practice experience supports a practical approach to protecting intellectual property, evaluating legal risks, and helping clients manage valuable technology and brand assets.
