Joseph F. Brophy

Joseph F. Brophy is an Austin litigation partner with 27 years of transactional and courtroom experience. He represents individuals, executives, businesses, construction companies, franchisors, franchisees, and other clients in complex civil disputes. His practice includes contract, fraud, fiduciary duty, real estate, construction, securities, professional malpractice, energy, insurance, intellectual property, trade secrets, and personal injury matters. He also advises clients on transactions and strategic matters while handling disputes across Texas courts.

Joseph earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from St. Mary’s University School of Law, where he joined the John Harlan Honor Society and Phi Delta Phi and served as a senior associate editor of the law journal. He earned his B.B.A. in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. His academic background supports his effective analysis of commercial disputes, financial issues, transactions, and litigation strategy for sophisticated client matters.

Joseph has served as lead counsel in many civil lawsuits and previously worked as an equity partner at two Austin law firms. He has also served as general counsel to holding companies in commercial real estate development and financial advisory industries. His experience spans boardroom counseling and courtroom advocacy statewide, helping clients address business conflicts, ownership disputes, securities issues, construction claims, and other matters involving substantial financial or operational risk.

Joseph F. Brophy has received recognition for commercial, business, and securities litigation and is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He has held leadership roles with the Austin Bar Association Litigation Council and served on the Texas Young Lawyers Association board. He also volunteers through legal clinics serving people with limited resources.
