About

Jonathan M. Schulte is a partner at Smith Carpenter Cummins and Schulte, LLC in Southern Indiana. His practice spans a broad range of areas, including bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, debtor defense, estate planning, probate, civil litigation, business formation, collection law, adoptions, expungements, and contract disputes. He serves clients in both Indiana and Kentucky.

Jonathan earned his B.S. from the University of Dayton, Class of 2004. He later earned his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, Class of 2009, where he was named to the Dean’s List, showing strong academic performance during law school.

Jonathan is admitted to practice in Kentucky and Indiana state courts, the U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana and the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Clients trust him to begin working on their matter immediately and to develop a clear strategy toward the best possible outcome.

Jonathan was admitted to the Kentucky Bar in October 2009 and to the Indiana Bar in October 2010. Prior to joining his current firm, he spent more than two years as an associate at one of Kentuckiana’s largest creditors’ rights firms. That experience gave him an in-depth understanding of the creditor and debtor dynamic that continues to inform his practice. He joined Smith Carpenter Cummins and Schulte as an associate in April 2012 and became a partner in July 2017.

Jonathan M. Schulte’s estate planning practice focuses on helping clients document their wishes for asset distribution and personal care in the event of incapacitation. He prepares wills, trusts, living wills, healthcare directives, and powers of attorney tailored to each client’s circumstances. His business practice assists clients with entity formation in both Indiana and Kentucky, and he is available to litigate disputes when resolution outside of court is not possible. He also provides local appearance coverage for attorneys located outside the Southern Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky areas, making him a trusted resource for firms throughout the region.
