Jonathan L. Phillips

Jonathan L. Phillips is a founding partner of LefflerPhillips PLC in Fairfax, Virginia, and a former Fairfax County prosecutor. He represents clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges, white collar investigations, cybercrime allegations, and traffic offenses. His practice also includes protective orders, juvenile matters, expungements, professional disciplinary proceedings, and selected civil disputes. He appears in Virginia state courts and federal proceedings where criminal charges or related legal issues require trial experience.

Jonathan received a B.S. in Business Information Technology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, graduating magna cum laude with a Commonwealth’s Scholar distinction. He then earned his J.D. from Pennsylvania State University. Before practicing law, he worked as an information technology consultant in public and private settings. His technical background is relevant to matters involving electronic evidence, cybercrime, and the practical evaluation of complex information.

Jonathan served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County from 2008 to 2012. During that period, he handled thousands of misdemeanor and felony cases and tried more than 100 matters before juries and judges in Circuit Court. He also interned for Justice Barbara Milano Keenan of the Supreme Court of Virginia. He later founded a private practice before becoming a founding partner of his current firm.

Jonathan L. Phillips received the Fairfax Bar Association President’s Award in 2015 and 2019. His honors include listings by Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Washingtonian, and Northern Virginia Magazine. He has served on the Fairfax Bar Association Young Lawyers Board and the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program board. He draws on prosecution and defense experience to assess evidence, explain litigation risks, and protect clients’ interests in and outside court.
