About

Jonathan H. Siegel is an Oakland employment and labor attorney with more than 30 years of experience representing employees and labor organizations. He handles workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour class actions, and union matters. His work spans jury trials, arbitration, administrative hearings, and collective bargaining disputes. He represents workers seeking relief for unlawful employment practices and unions protecting their members’ contractual and statutory rights.

Jonathan received a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and graduated from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1977. After law school, he worked as staff counsel for the National Labor Law Center in Washington, D.C. He returned to Oakland in 1982 and founded the predecessor of his current employment law practice. His education and early labor law work shaped a career involving workplace rights, litigation, and collective negotiations.

Jonathan obtained a $17.25 million settlement in Conley v. PG&E after litigation that also led to overtime reclassification for 100 current employees. In Abel v. SF BART, his work helped establish overtime eligibility for employees in numerous job classifications and resulted in a multimillion-dollar payment. His individual cases include substantial jury awards involving age discrimination, pregnancy discrimination, and sexual harassment. He has also conducted hundreds of labor arbitrations and administrative hearings involving unions and employers. His class action work has involved claims for overtime compensation and legally required meal and rest breaks for employees.

Jonathan H. Siegel has received Super Lawyers recognition and an AV Preeminent peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell. He has been included among prominent Northern California employment attorneys and invited to the Earl Warren Inn of Court. His professional service includes teaching and judging trial advocacy programs at several law schools.
