John W. O’Leary is a principal and senior attorney at Gravis Law in Richland, Washington. He brings a litigation background and decades of experience to matters involving bankruptcy, debtor-creditor issues, business counsel, municipal general counsel work, civil litigation, estate planning, and probate. Mr. O’Leary helps business owners, organizations, families, and individuals address complex legal concerns with practical advice, careful analysis, and a focus on protecting what they have built.
Mr. O’Leary earned his B.S. from the University of California, Berkeley. He later received his J.D. from Lewis and Clark College, Northwestern School of Law. His education provided a strong foundation in legal research, writing, advocacy, and problem solving. This training supports his ability to evaluate financial disputes, business needs, estate planning concerns, probate administration issues, and litigation risks with informed judgment and clear client communication.
Mr. O’Leary’s practice began with a strong focus on bankruptcy, including Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 reorganizations and other debtor-creditor matters. His current work includes advising business owners and organizations on operational, legal, and strategic matters, representing clients in civil disputes, and guiding families through estate planning and probate administration. His experience also includes contract law, general counsel services, probate litigation, construction litigation, and real estate and property litigation.
Mr. O’Leary is admitted to practice in Washington and Oregon, as well as before federal courts in Washington and Oregon and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has been elected by his peers as president of the Federal Bankruptcy Bar Association for the Eastern District of Washington and remains involved in speaking engagements and CLE presentations. Through his work, Mr. O’Leary provides attentive, calm, direct, and informed counsel for clients facing important legal and financial decisions.
