John R. Garey

John R. Garey is a criminal defense attorney and founder of his law office in Dover, Delaware. He focuses his practice on criminal defense, including DUI and DWI charges, drug offenses, traffic matters, violent crimes, property offenses, and other misdemeanor and felony cases. He represents clients in Kent and Sussex Counties and brings extensive prosecutorial experience to the defense of people facing investigation, arrest, or prosecution in Delaware courts.

Garey earned a J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1987 and a B.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park. He was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1987. His legal education was followed by a lengthy career as a prosecutor, giving him direct experience with criminal charging decisions, evidence, plea negotiations, trial preparation, and courtroom procedure.

Before opening his law office in 2003, Garey spent more than fifteen years as a Delaware prosecutor, including service in the Criminal Division of the Attorney General’s Office. Since entering private practice, he has represented defendants in a wide range of criminal matters. His prior prosecution work helps him evaluate the State’s evidence and identify issues that may affect a defense strategy.

John R. Garey has practiced criminal law in Delaware for decades on both sides of the courtroom.
