About
John P. Mullen is a partner at Boyce Law Firm in Sioux Falls with more than thirty years of legal experience. He represents lenders, contractors, and other creditors in state and bankruptcy court proceedings and trials. His practice also includes business and commercial litigation, business organizations and transactions, real estate matters, asset and stock transfer sales, and disputes involving shareholder rights or post-employment restrictions. He helps business clients protect financial interests, manage disputes, and complete important transactions.
John earned B.A. degrees in Russian and History from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1992. His humanities background and legal training support a practice that demands close reading, careful drafting, and detailed analysis of commercial relationships. These skills are central to creditor-rights matters, real estate transactions, business sales, and litigation involving contracts, ownership interests, or restrictive covenants. His education provided a foundation for both transactional counseling and courtroom advocacy.
John has spent decades protecting creditors’ rights in state and bankruptcy proceedings while advising business clients on transactions. He handles real estate deals, asset and stock transfer sales, shareholder disputes, and cases involving non-competition and non-solicitation agreements. His broader practice includes business organizations, commercial lending, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, foreclosures, development, leasing, and commercial litigation. He is admitted in South Dakota state and federal courts and has worked at Boyce Law Firm since 2011.
John P. Mullen is a member of the South Dakota State Bar Association and brings a long-term business perspective to litigation and transactional work. His practice combines creditor advocacy with experience in ownership disputes, real estate, commercial agreements, and business sales. He helps clients examine documents, evaluate enforcement options, and structure transactions with attention to financial risk. That combination allows him to advise businesses and creditors when a matter requires negotiation, documentation, litigation, bankruptcy-court involvement, or several of those tools together.
