John L. Ahlgren

John L. Ahlgren is of counsel at Hoefle Phoenix Gormley & Roberts, PLLC in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He provides legal services to businesses, individuals, and nonprofit organizations after more than four decades in practice. His work includes business lawsuits and disputes, personal injury, asset protection, real estate, elder law, divorce, and custody. John earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from Hastings College of Law after attending Saint Paul’s School. His legal education supported a career spanning private practice, government service, civil litigation, and counseling. He is admitted in New Hampshire and Maine, with federal court admissions serving New Hampshire, Maine, and northern California. His broad academic and professional background supports his ability to evaluate legal problems across several areas of law.

John began his legal career in 1973 at the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, first providing administrative counsel and later serving as an assistant attorney general. He represented the state in courts and before administrative bodies, including agencies responsible for labor, motor vehicles, utilities, racing, development, and environmental matters. He later founded Ahlgren, Perrault and Pudloski, P.A. in Portsmouth and served as its senior partner before joining his current firm in 2015.

John L. Ahlgren has handled significant matters during his career, including negotiating a 1982 pardon for an incarcerated woman and helping prosecute Krempels v. Maine Turnpike Authority in 1994. That federal trial produced a substantial plaintiff verdict. His experience representing injured people, businesses, individuals, and public agencies gives him a wide perspective on disputes and counseling. He continues to emphasize practical evaluation, efficient legal action, and responsive guidance for clients facing varied legal needs.
