John Gihon is a Board-Certified Immigration and Nationality Law attorney in Florida with more than 20 years of legal experience. He focuses on immigration law, deportation defense, and matters involving both immigration and criminal law at Lasnetski Gihon Law as a partner. Throughout his career, he has represented individuals facing complex legal challenges and has worked to protect their rights in immigration and federal courts. His extensive background in both government service and private practice allows him to provide informed legal guidance to clients dealing with difficult immigration matters.
John earned his B.A. in History, with a minor in Criminology, from the University of Florida in 1999, graduating with honors. He later received his J.D. from the University of Florida in 2002, also graduating with honors. His strong academic foundation helped prepare him for a successful legal career focused on public service, litigation, and immigration law.
John began his legal career as a criminal prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office in Jacksonville, Florida. During his time there, he handled thousands of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to serious felony and homicide matters. He later joined the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), where he served as an attorney and was eventually promoted to Senior Attorney. In that role, he managed a wide variety of removal and deportation cases, including matters involving criminal convictions, national security concerns, asylum claims, and applications for relief from removal.
John Gihon has helped many individuals navigate the complex U.S. immigration system over the years. He has represented clients seeking asylum, adjustment of status, cancellation of removal, and other forms of immigration relief. In addition to representing clients, he has trained government attorneys, law enforcement officers, and legal professionals on immigration law and related issues. His leadership roles within professional organizations, including the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Florida Bar, reflect his commitment to advancing legal knowledge and supporting the immigration law community. Today, he continues to advocate for clients facing challenging immigration and legal matters.
