John F. Vodopia is a highly skilled patent attorney with more than three decades of experience in intellectual property law. Since 1992, he has helped businesses, innovators, and technology professionals protect their ideas and resolve complex patent and trademark matters. Before entering the legal field, he worked as an electrical and computer engineer in sonar-related technology, giving him a strong technical foundation that supports his ability to handle advanced engineering and software issues. His practice at John F. Vodopia PC focuses on patent prosecution, litigation, licensing, and strategic protection of electronic and internet-based inventions.

Mr. Vodopia holds a B.S.E.E. from Polytechnic University, now the New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering, and a J.D. from New York Law School. He is admitted to the New York and New Jersey State Bars, the Eastern District of New York, the District Court in Newark, the New York State Court of Appeals, and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has been registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office since 1992.

Mr. Vodopia has helped clients through his long career navigate the whole patent process, from drafting applications to prosecuting them before the USPTO and handling appeals when needed. He has supported individuals and companies seeking protection for innovations in mobile communications, diagnostic medical imaging, PACS systems, CADx systems, software applications, and other electronic-based technologies. His background allows him to break down complicated concepts and guide clients through the legal steps required to secure and defend their intellectual property rights.

John F. Vodopia also contributes to the legal and engineering communities. He served as Chair of IEEE’s Long Island Section, currently leads IEEE’s Committee for Legal Affairs, and holds leadership roles in IEEE EMBS and SSIT. In addition, he co-chaired the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Committee. Through these roles and his legal practice, he continues to support innovation and provide clear, dependable guidance to those seeking to protect their work.
