Joel earned his B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He later continued his legal education at the University of Nebraska College of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1988. His academic background provided a strong foundation for understanding both legal systems and the practical issues that affect communities and businesses. This education continues to guide his thoughtful, practical approach to legal matters for his clients.

Joel began his legal career with the Mueting and Stoffer law firm in Norfolk in 1990. From 1994 to 1996, he served as a legislative assistant in the Nebraska Legislature, gaining valuable insight into the lawmaking process. After returning to private practice, he served as Deputy Madison County Attorney from 1996 to 2008. In addition, he currently serves on the Commission on Industrial Relations. His professional experience reflects decades of involvement in both public service and private legal practice.
